The Tree

A number of years ago we started driving out to the middle of nowhere, dragging our frozen butts out into a field and cutting down our own tree. We did this over and over again. And then we got smart (and Scott got worse) and we started going to our local nursery in search of a beautiful tree.
We were on a mission.

Seek out the perfect tree not only for the Witt house but for the Pothast house as well. Each home having it's own issues.
The Pothast tree came easy. It stood there beckoning to be taken home.

The Witt tree... ah... well the Witt tree wouldn't be the Witt tree if it was easy.
We found one, we thought it was a contender.

Dad and Justin man handled it, dragging it out of the lot.

And delivering it to his royal highness (who was too sick to join the rest of us in freezing to death) where we received this....

Dang it! Back to the drawing board.
*Wander, wander, freeze a little, dance like an idiot a little*
Ah, ha. There she is. The prized tree.
Uh, oh... she's too big to drag to his royal highness, time to get creative.

The seal of approval. Thank God, now we can head inside and warm up.

Kate was the only one unfazed. She just wanted everyone to fall all over themselves for her.

There was even a round of "Ring Around The Rosie" where we all held hands and sang the song. We are but mere puppets in her little game.

Homeward bound. Tree safely tucked on top of the car. Dad and Scott tucked inside with me. Somehow between the three of us nobody remembered the tree on the roof of the car. Pulled right into the garage.... yeah.. that was nice. No real harm done but my sides sure did hurt from all the laughing.

The beautiful and glorious 9 foot frasier fir tree was happily placed in our great room. Finally a tree that wasn't dwarfed by our 22foot high ceiling.

I am a lot of things but typically, I'm no dummy. I kindly asked my family if they would mind helping me hang the lights on the tree (read: I demanded they help or I would withhold food).

Tree topper time. Kate gave it a try.

That was a fail.

I gave it a try.

Yep that was a fail.

Nothing a little twist tie couldn't fix.

Our beautiful tree is up, lit and waiting for Scott to feel better so we can put on the ornaments.

Kate and I took advantage of a quiet evening tonight and did a little holiday light photo shoot.

She loves the tree and was more than happy to take some photos in front of it. Posing nicely and smiling pretty.

Or maybe it was the bribe.

Whatever...

How are your holiday plans coming? Are the gifts all purchased and wrapped? Or are you one of those wait until the 24th kind of people?

Can't quite do it

Sorry kids, today I can't quite rally. I want so badly to glaze over the issues, to put up the happy pictures from our weekend and use pretty words to say were fine.
Not going to happen today. The energy it takes to do that needs to be spent in other areas of my life.
Dad and I had to drag Scott out to the doctor this afternoon (in the beautiful 17 degree weather). After hitting a temp of 102 this morning he had to be seen. He's started on a high dose antibiotic. He's definatly got something going on we just don't know from where, ther are just too many options. I'm really hoping this does the trick because the alternative is a stay in the hospital.
He was feeling pretty crappy by bedtime tonight. I'm just hoping he sleeps better.

I'm not going to sit here and bitch endelessly. So I'll sign off. Tomorrow is another day.

Stupid, Poopyhead Internet

Our internet is down (thank goodness I have a smartphone). I will have to share the story of how we became proud owners of a 9ft fraser fir tree tomorrow.
Here's a helpful tip for you...
If something goes on the roof of your car, do your best to remember it BEFORE
you pull in your garage.
I'm just sayin'.
Later dudes.

Guess What...

I got my snow. Lots and lots of pretty white fluffy snow.

Kate wouldn't go out and play with me. She didn't want to get her new socks wet. Don't ask, I don't understand it. That's ok, she and Scott played inside and I got to take some photos.

My snow blower wouldn't start. I have a very nice neighbor that plowed the end of the drive and it wasn't too cold outside so I enjoyed the exercise of shoveling. Guess what Dad is going to do tomorrow when he visits... sorry Dad.

I was attempting to use a local printer for my never ending photo printing for the holidays. Sent them 4 things and they look horrible. I'm going back to my standard Mpix.com. Good thing I just got an email for free shipping.

Scott started really feeling ill (100temp) at the same time as I was trying to put Kate to bed. Big girl headed upstairs ("wif the lights on Mama, cause I scared in the dark") and waited for me almost patiently.

Life and snow... beautiful, soft, delicate, fun, heartwarming, soul filling, sloppy, messy, dangerous, ruthless, blood sucking, challenging.
This is the turtle that hides under the bush on my front walk. He's kind of the Witt family mascot.

Diamonds

I am up to my diamond clad ears in photos right now. I can barely see.

Lots of holiday gifts, the holiday card, some fun stuff, some blog stuff... just lots and lots of photos.

Trying out a new technique tonight in the dark depths of our home office.

Wish me luck....

Bits and Pieces

The weather people are talking about some measurable snow coming our way.

The pittance we got the yesterday wasn't enough to quench the "Give me snow now!" beast that is living inside me. I will admit I made sure I knew where my snow boots were this afternoon. I also located and tried on Kate's snow pants and coat because I can't go outside and play photo queen (read nut job) without Kate.

Kate is in love with Christmas music. We listen to it all the time. She sang "We wish you a merry christmas" to me yesterday for my birthday instead of Happy Birthday. I spent most of the day trying (unsuccessfully) to teach her that it's "Holly Jolly Christmas" and not "Lolly Dolly Twismas".

I have about 50 percent of our holiday shopping complete. Thank you internet.
I haven't ordered our holiday cards yet because I can't stop torturing myself.

I'm preparing an entire post on the cards I got for my birthday. Some were quite epic.

I got quite buried today and didn't get enough returned calls or emails made, this happens almost daily.

Kate grew about an inch overnight last week. She'll be the only 4 year old that can dunk a basketball.

Loved all the birthday wishes. Thank you again. To all of you that guessed Silence of the Lambs in my last post, job well done. I love that movie!
Also stemming from those comments; yes Kathy, I will marry you. :)

Scott watches really bad game shows on the Game Show Network during the day. Please give me some ideas of tv series that are out on DVD that I can rent or buy to make the torture end. Oh, and it can't be CSI, NCIS, or Criminal Minds because that is what he's watching if he's not watching the game shows.

I have about 60 pages left in a book that has taken me forever to read so I'm going to shush up for now and finish the damn book. Sleep, who needs it?
