Music Monday

Scott would sing this song in its entirety to my very pregnant stomach.
After Kate was born it was one of his go to lullabies. Strange but true.

Kate had her four year well kid check today. She did an awesome job. For the first time since her birth Kate was not off the charts for height. She was barely on the chart at 100%. Meaning Kate at 44'' tall has some crazy ass height. She's also turned into a little string bean. The doctor isn't worried about it so I won't be either.
We spent some time talking about the impact on Kate from losing Scott. Her doctor was terrific as always and gave me lots of resources and reassured me that Kate is doing wonderful. So far, I haven't completely messed her up. GO ME!

In my "kick in the pants" moment of the day, I got in the car and on auto-pilot I picked up the phone and called Scott. The voicemail message instantly brought me back to reality. Yep, that stung.

I've got some photo processing to do but I'll give you this one teaser photo from our trip away.

Not to toot my own horn but... ~~TOOT~~ This photo is straight out of the camera. No editing, no nothing. Just click and post. Woohoo!!

Blood Clot

Some simple blood clots behind Scott's knee is causing his swelling. He's got his IVC filter in place so it will continue to do it's job and catch any clots before they get to Scott's heart and lungs.

We got our favorite ultrasound tech today. Tom knows Scott very well so we feel confident that he got a good scan and didn't miss anything. Scott was laying on the table during the ultrasound telling Tom how he (Tom), Dr. Jacobs (vascular surgeon) and Dr. Farrell (interventional radiologist) and some great medical gear would be his dream team if he was on a deserted island. About 15 minutes later, Scott remembered to include his wife in his "dream team". I feel so loved!

BigDan and Kathy stocked our car (and then our freezer) with some delicious meals and treats while we were inside. How many places can you get an ultrasound, a top notch vascular surgeon and a car full of homemade meals? We are the luckiest people on the planet. Thank you again BigDan and Kathy. The fresh baked, homemade rye bread is out of this world. I'm looking forward to the bacon click here to read how Dan made it. with some eggs and the berry cobbler tomorrow night. Kate already has her eyes set on a huge piece of "Aunt Kafies" banana bread for breakfast tomorrow.
Fat and happy.

I will say that aside from the awesome medical professionals, the wonderful friends that we didn't get to see, and the good news that Scott does not have an aneurysm in his right leg, it was an AWFUL visit.
Scott was done before we even got the ultrasound started. I spent the last hour in Dr. Jacobs doing this.

No, I'm not strangling Scott for omitting me from his deserted island, I'm holding up his head. His pulse was high, his breathing shallow and he kept trying to pass out from exhaustion. I couldn't get him home fast enough.
But, he's here. He's home, playing with Kate, watching movies and resting. His fever stayed away most of the day after plaguing him all night last night and is making a return appearance tonight.

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes for Scott today. You kept him wrapped up in positive thoughts and love all day long. I know it helped get him through the day.
Thank you to my Mom and Dad for having taking great care of Kate while we were gone. Papa I'm especially proud of you for telling her she didn't need a 12th pair of sunglasses.

Time to keep on keeping on.

"It be ok"

Dressing changes with Kate around are becoming funnier. Nothing phases that little girl.
Scott had an appointment with the neurologist today (all is status quo) after dinner we did his leg dressing and were getting him settled in bed. Kate doesn't get to see many dressing changes, maybe one a month. She loves to help when she's awake.

As I'm preparing to get Scott's leg unwrapped she starts singing "I can't wait to see the boo boo's. I can't wait to see them." She officially made up a song about it.
During the dressing change, as Scott is bleeding everywhere, she looks at him from her up close spot on the floor, reaches up towards him and soothingly says "it's ok Daddy. It be ok. I'm right here. It's just a little blood."

Today was one of those I fucking hate being an adult days for me. Really, truly I hate being an adult some days. So thankful for that extra big hug Kate gave me at bedtime. That snuggle reminded me of all the reasons to never give up.
What would I do with out her.

Rush...again

Christmas photos keep getting put off. Poor Christmas.
Scott is once again a patient at Rush. I'm mobile blogging from there now.
We met with Dr. Jacobs and discussed the issues at hand. He agreed that infectious diseases should be brought on board and thought we should probably do it at Rush (but was supportive of whatever
we chose to do). Scott and I left Dr. Jacobs office and headed over to ID (infectious diseases) to schedule an appointment. We got lucky and the fit us in right away.
Dr. Smith is a straight talking, no nonsense, attack the problem kind of doctor. Yes, I love her.
She looked over Scott's wounds and said "we need to admit you.". An hour later Scott was upstairs on 8S. Were missing our old stomping grounds on 8N. Can't say I miss SICU but I sure do miss our nurse (and doctor) friends there.
So far, so good. Lots of test scheduled to get to the root of the problems and figure out the best course of action for treatment. They've already started anti-biotics so were on our way. I've already been asked 4 times if I'm in the medical field. Makes me laugh every time.
Feeling hopeful that this will be a quick stay. Dr. Smith did say that there's a chance he'll be home for the new year.
Time to go. I'll keep everyone posted on the major developments. I'm snapping photos too because you all know I make everything a photo opportunity.
