More of the Same

Just talked to Dr. Jacobs. Scott did well through surgery. They removed more blood clot but this time there was no real active bleeding.
They filled the entire cavity with Bio-Glue, coating everything. Scott's incision won't close all the way any longer. They are having to get creative in closing it.
Hoping this is the last time they have to go in. Next time it would be very difficult because of all the glue.

Scott will be in SICU for a while again. He's in room 511 which I HATE. Nothing but bad horrible, God awful experience in that room. I want him moved but being in a quad is worse so I'll just swallow my silly superstitions.

Thanks for all the love guys. You're all helping keep him safe.

Looney Tunes

Scott came out of anesthesia a little looney. He's very confused. He knows all the important information but he's disturbed. Of course they are watching him closely but the general consensus is that it's from all the anesthesia meds in the last 3 days paired with his blood loss.
He told me he forgot he was in surgery and when they brought him out he though that he was at a Christmas party and all the things (pumps, iv's, oxygen, vital tram) on the bed were presents. He said he thought they were opening his gifts and taking them.
Those must be some drugs they give back there.

His pressures are good, still no tone (pulse) in the foot, heart rate is good, no crazy bleeding, all in all not bad - considering.

I've got him listening to his IPOD trying to chill. Ok, now he's drumming all over everything he can reach. What a nut. I'm hoping this passes soon, he needs to rest and honestly it's scary.

Thanks for all the love, may I please have some more.....

Bio Glue

Scott's leg is filled with Bio-Glue. I haven't yet Googled but I'm told it's pretty bad ass.

Surgery went not so well. Scott's femoral artery disintegrated in Dr. Jacobs hands. There was no hope of saving it. They tied it off. The femoral artery is the main supply (and in Scott's case the only supply) of blood to the leg and foot.
Things didn't look good. We've learned to never count out Scott - we don't know what he's capable of.
Please, Scott is having a really hard time fighting, I need all of you to send a message. Even if we don't know you directly I need you all to help me raise Scott out of this and give him reasons to keep fighting.

I have to add a special shout out to Ann S. The girl came over, got my keys, took my car filled it with gas, came back and has put up with me and my non-stop talking. Oh and let's not forget the fantastic dinner she brought over. Such amazing friends we have.

Success Again

Everything looks good. Scott has tone (pulses) in his foot. They evacuated a basketball sized hematoma and repacked everything in his thigh. He's got an ace wrap from ankle to groin and they are keeping sand bags on his leg until Kate graduates college.

Everyone is feeling really positive. Dr. Chad as usual cautions me that with Scott we never quite know what to expect.

Just got back to see Scott, I'm watching him rest right now. Poor guy came out of surgery on a vent. He tells me right away he can't breathe, which sounds really strange when he's got something breathing for him. Lauren (our most fantastic nurse for the last 2 days) and Dr. Ben took my advice and turned off the vent. Turns out the vent forcing Scott to breathe was what was causing his issues. He's now resting comfortably with a blanket over his head. He looks like the Emperor from Star Wars. Don't worry folks I took a picture that I'll be sharing with all of you later.

I've gotten quite a few pictures today actually, with real camera and not my phone. Dr. Ben, who is now following this blog (HI Ben - we pink puffy heart you) even posed for a picture. See that's a good dr., he can keep up with my nutty ways.

Things are looking pretty good from here for now. As always, one eye to the sky - that fucking shoe hurts.

Take the good with the bad

****It's been a long night****
****This post won't make sense unless you scroll down and catch up****

Just finished the dreaded post op conversation with Dr. Chad in the hallway from hell.

Let's start positive -
Scott is stable at the moment
He has provided yet another learning experience for the dr's. They have never seen anything like it.
.......... that's all the positive I've got....I'll try again later.

The bad -
Scott will most probably lose his left leg.
Scott's chances of surviving an amputation aren't fabulous.

The situation -

The fistulas that they fixed this morning with the stent placement created such intense pressure in his veins that the veins in his theigh burst. Dr. Chad likened it to a bowl of spagetti. You touched one piece and all the other pieces around it would move and burst. They spent 2+hours tying knots in all these pieces of spagetti that are as fragile as wet tissue paper.
The stents that were placed this morning have completely clotted off. This leaves Scott's leg with a tiny amount of blood supply.
They are going to give Scott a few days to see if his body can perform one of his miraculous healings. They are going to do everything they can to save his leg but it doesn't look good.

Please forgive me - this post probably doesn't make much sense I'm exhausted overwhelemed and struggling with recounting my conversation with Dr. Chad. It's all too much.
